Social media connects students with families

Selfies and social networking exchanges have become useful tools for scholarship students abroad, especially during holidays such as Eid when they can feel closer to their families and loved ones.
For Mohammed Al-Dosari, exchanging selfies with his family members on WhatsApp and Snapchat minimizes feelings of being alone during the Eid, while videos and voicenotes allow him to feel involved in the daily lives of relatives and friends.
Many scholarship students have come to rely on the value of these technologies, says Abdulhamid Al-Anzi. During national holidays and Eid, he says many students come together to celebrate as a group and send photos and videos back home to their families and friends.
These photos have become a necessity for Samah Abduljabbar, who shares photos of herself and her children in their Eid outfits on her social networking accounts.
