Riyadh Metro to create 23,000 jobs for citizens, says governor

Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar said that the multi-billion-riyal Riyadh Metro will create 23,000 jobs for citizens during the construction and operation phases.
The governor made the comments after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Labor, following an inspection tour at the King Abdulaziz Public Transport project, a local publication reported.
During the tour, he was briefed on the project’s progress, flanked by Labor Minister Mufrej Al-Haqabani and Finance Minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf.
Prince Faisal said that the project would be delivered on schedule by the end of 2018.
“This is very reassuring ... and shows that our youth have the competency to achieve success, and are willing to work hard to ensure the completion of the country’s major developmental projects.”
He was quoted as saying that the agreement would ensure jobs are created for Saudis. It would include training and technology transfers, and a cooperation program with universities.
Prince Faisal said the project has thus far taken place without workers being injured, and that the cooperation of citizens has been a “main pillar” of the development.
“I personally want to thank Riyadh residents for being patient during the difficult construction phase. We are looking forward that they as Saudi citizens, assume major roles in the operational phase.”
