"Trakhees" organizes an extensive inspection campaign for consumer product safety at Dragon Mart

The Department of Planning and Development - Trakhees at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation implemented an extensive and wide-ranging inspection campaign to ensure the safety of products in shops at Dragon Mart in Dubai, which continued for 3 days with a completion rate of 100%. The campaign included several inspection rounds on shops selling cosmetics, perfumes and electronic cigarettes, which are witnessing a significant growth in demand during the recent period, in order to verify the quality of the products offered for sale from the perspective of customers, business and enterprises.

H.E. Eng. Abdulla Belhoul, CEO of the Department of Planning and Development - Trakhees, confirmed that this campaign, which took place under the supervision and implementation of the Environment, Health and Safety Department in the Trakhees Department, comes within the framework of a global interest towards improving the safety standards of consumer products, and ensuring the provision of accurate and transparent information to consumers before purchasing, and ensuring that they obtain correct information about the purchased goods.

The campaign also seeks to inform business owners about their obligations regarding consumer rights, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, and adopting optimal practices in commerce and retail operations. This endeavor aims to elevate product safety and quality in local markets, thereby bolstering consumer rights and fostering a sustainable, trustworthy business climate in the region.

Eng. Abdulla Belhoul affirmed: “In our view, consumers are a vital cornerstone of the economy, and it is incumbent upon companies to uphold their responsibilities towards them. This is the objective we aim to accomplish through our extensive inspection campaigns. Given that consumer safety forms the bedrock of equitable trade, we are steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that consumers receive products that not only meet their expectations but also adhere to health and environmental regulations”.

He further commented, "Consumers deserve transparency regarding their purchases and consumption. Our goal is to empower them with precise and thorough information about products. We understand that adhering to health and environmental guidelines isn't merely a legal obligation but also a reflection of our ethical and societal responsibility. Recognizing that a stable market hinges on product safety, we're ramping up our routine inspection efforts”.

His Excellency concluded by addressing his message to shop owners: “We urge all business owners to unite with us in bolstering product safety and safeguarding consumer rights. Collaboration is the pathway to cultivating an economy grounded in trust and ethical conduct, with adherence to health and environmental norms serving as the cornerstone of market success. Our commitment is to assist you in attaining these objectives”.
