Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi receives a series of books from the Mexican embassy in the UAE

In line with the UAE reads initiative, Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi received a collection of prominent Spanish books from the Mexican embassy in the UAE to highlight the importance of the cultural diversity in the university’s library that brings together more than 100,000 books in different languages and subjects. The Mexican Embassy representative attended this ceremony along with the university’s management, staff and students.

This initiative showcases the legacy of Sorbonne Abu Dhabi’s library as well as the strong relations between the Mexican embassy in the UAE and the university. This cooperation between the two parties plays an important role in promoting the Spanish language especially, because the university offers a programme in Applied Foreign Languages.

 

Mr. Pedro Blanco, Chargé d´ Affaires of the Embassy of Mexico in the UAE said: “The Embassy of Mexico in the United Arab Emirates is very pleased to collaborate with the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi in promoting the Spanish Language and Mexican literature as well as the interaction between the different cultures in the university. I hope that a donation of a contemporary Mexican literature book collection will lead to an ever growing cooperation between the University and our Embassy in Abu Dhabi”. 

 

Mr. Blanco added: “Mexico’s diplomatic network privileges local partnerships for cultural cooperation with the most prominent institutions worldwide. We are very proud to engage with Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi in cultural projects that will benefit the student community and the cultural understanding between our countries”.

 

For his part, Prof. Eric Fouache, Vice chancellor at Paris- Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, said: “Based on our slogan A bridge between civilizations, we are very happy to be cooperating with the Embassy of Mexico in the UAE to promote Mexican literature, history and anthropology. We believe that these books are an addition to our library that will enrich the series we already offer to our students in different fields. This will play a role in introducing new areas of knowledge to our students”.

 

The Library at Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi collects, creates, organizes, preserves, and provides access to information resources that enable the University to fulfil its mission in terms of teaching, learning, research, and the advancement of knowledge.

 

Established in October 2006, the University offers a library containing resources in the areas of Philosophy, Religion, Political Philosophy, Politics, Economics, Law, Language and Literature, Management, Art, Archaeology, Geography, History, Psychology, Mathematics and Physics. The Library also houses The Crouzet Collection, a private collection of books on economic history, and the history of France and Great Britain that belonged to the late Prof Francois Crouzet. The University also received a donation of 350 volumes of Collected Courses by The Hague Academy of International Law.

 

The library has a collection of more than 100,000 books, 150 printed journals, 250,000 e-books, and 32 electronic databases, which allow access to thousands of journals in full text electronic format.
