Ministry emphasizes OSH to prevent injuries at work

Dr. Mohammed Al-Faleh, assistant deputy minister for inspection and development of work environment at the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, emphasized the need to activate channels with related entities to execute the national strategy for the occupational safety and health in private establishments.

Such a move is in a bid to implement the OSH policies in all firms and limit injuries at work, which is in accordance with the Saudi Vision 2030 along with its National Transformation Program 2020, Al-Faleh said while delivering his keynote speech at the 6th edition of the Safety and Fire Protection Conference here.

Al-Faleh added that the national strategy aims to develop a legal framework for the workplace safety and health across the Kingdom through building knowledge, resources and capabilities, spreading awareness of the occupational health hazards, enhancing regulations and contributing to the development of an inspection system to detect and investigate accidents.

At the conference, the assistant deputy minister for inspection and development of work environment clarified that the OSH strategy is in line with the objectives of the National Transformation Plan, in order to provide an environment that attracts workers and help them secure their job, generate new jobs and create public-private partnership.

The ministry is seeking to support occupational safety and health specialists engaged in various sectors and industries, in particular those with high injuries and illness rates, Al-Faleh mentioned in reference to measures taken to prevent the workplace hazards.

The establishment of a unified system for the implementation of occupational safety and health, which stems from global best practices in the field, would act as a resource for private establishments to create their OSH regulations, as well as allow professionals to review it to introduce some amends in future, Al-Faleh said.
