2,000 govt schools to be made 'independent’

The Ministry of Education will soon make 2,000 government schools “independent,” allowing them autonomy in administrative and financial matters.
These schools would help reduce the financial burden of the government and help improve its educational quality, without ending the facility of free education for boys and girls in these schools.
These schools would have more powers in terms of management and administration, as well as in the matter of the syllabus, educational activities and the professional skills development program for teachers as per their requirements.
Those who have come up with the idea of independent schools are of the view that these schools were the best choice of the educational sector to achieve the objectives of Vision 2030. This would reduce government expenditure on education, and create opportunities for investment in school buildings and related facilities.
Those who have previous experience in the education sector, management and planning of schools would also get the opportunity to play their role. They would be utilized through small-size companies and institutions if they have a clear plan of work.
Ahmad Abdullah Qaran, director general of awareness initiatives and director of independent schools at the Ministry of Education, said that this type of school would help improve the performance of educational process in schools through administrative and financial powers. These powers would help schools to take suitable decisions with regard to educational activities, improve their quality and their products.
He said that currently work was underway to set up model independent schools with the help of international houses of experience.
