The Saudi General Commission for Audiovisual Media will announce on Thursday winners of the New Media Prize, which will be given to 10 most influential digital content makers in the Kingdom.

Minister of Culture and Information Awwad Al-Awwad will attend the event at the Saudi Television premises in Riyadh, according to the Commission Chairman Ridha Bin Mohammed Al-Haider.

“As many as 300 people have been nominated for the Prize through a public voting in which more than 140,000 participated. Ten winners will be picked from among a shortlist of 300 nominated candidates. They will be honored at the function,” he said.

Al-Haider said that the New Media Center at the Ministry of Culture and Information, supported by the General Authority for Audiovisual Media, is making final arrangements for honoring the award winners.

The prize was instituted last month with the objective of encouraging the pioneers of social media to pay more attention to social issues.

The award was instituted to encourage and develop national talents.

The candidates were chosen according to several criteria, the most important of which was measuring the impact of the content and its contribution to positive changes.

Al-Haider said that the prize will be awarded exclusively to Saudi youth who have been proved most influential with a specialization in the digital media.
