UEFA Champions League Final Embraces a Carbon Free Future

The first year of Nissan's four-year partnership with the UEFA Champions League ended by leaving a lasting legacy of Nissan's commitment to a carbon free future. Over one hundred electric cars were deployed around Berlin, the site of the Champions League Final, and 129 charging points installed to support these vehicles.

Having sold over 184,000 electric vehicles to date, more than any other car manufacturer, the UEFA Champions League Final was a demonstration of the significant impact EVs can have on our major cities and Nissan's commitment to developing technologies that is defining tomorrow's motoring. As makers of the world's best-selling 100 percent electric car, the Nissan LEAF, EVs helped transport 1,466 guests across 23,130 km powered by 3,932 kWh of charge.  Nissan's EV sales in Europe in the first half of 2015 are at 11,360 which confirms Nissan's position as the market leader in the pure electric car sector, in the UK alone sales of Nissan's all-electric LEAF have  topped over 10,000 units since launch (10,160).

Bastien Schupp, Vice President, Marketing - Nissan Europe said: "Nissan is about Innovation that Excites, and we constantly strive to push the boundaries in everything we do. We know the way we live our lives is changing at a rapid pace with cities becoming overcrowded, putting increased pressure on urban infrastructure and energy supplies. This is why Nissan worked closely with UEFA during the Final to help lessen the impact on the city around this world-class global sporting spectacle."

In addition, Nissan was able to showcase its EV leadership to the 300,000 estimated visitors at the Champions Festival site at the Brandenburg Gate in the centre of the city as well as launching the zero emission PART e-VAN. Events at the Final helped power the custom designed all- electric e-NV200 that transported the UEFA Champions League trophy from the Champions Festival to the Olympiastadion ahead of the match. Following its debut in Berlin, the PARTe-VAN, the all-electric e-NV200 which has been transformed into the ultimate party on wheels, has started its European roadshow which will run throughout the summer.

This is just one example of the way in which Nissan is leading in its pursuit to bring future technologies to the market. As experts of the e-mobility revolution, Nissan was there at the start and is still here today - with the largest EV customer base that has driven over 1 billion kilometres around the world.

Nissan is the official global automotive sponsor of the UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Champions League, with a deal that will cover the period 2014/2015 to 2017/2018. As an official partner Nissan will be involved with Europe's most prestigious club football competition through a number of its exclusive products and services.
