Tilal Liwa Hotel joins UAE in celebrating Earth Hour

Lights switched off and non-essential appliances unplugged for one hour

Tilal Liwa Hotel, a secluded hideaway leisure resort perched on the edge of Rub Al Khali Desert, participated in the annual Earth Hour by turning off all unnecessary lights around the hotel premises and in the staff accommodation for one hour last Saturday, 28th March 2015.

Hotel staff and hotel guests supported the initiative by switching off the hotel rooms light, laundry lights and the wall lights in the courtyard and interlock areas. They also unplugged computers in offices which are not affecting the operations and non-essential appliances.

Guests who were dining from 8:30 to 9:30pm were very happy to dine with candle light and the entire hotel was lit with candles in support of the campaign. Finger foods and bubbly were given to hotel guests and employees who gathered together at the lobby to support the initiative.

Khaled Sharabassy, General Manager, Tilal Liwa Hotel, said: “A few weeks before the event, we have informed all the employees that we will contribute to this initiative which was carried out all over the world. We have created posters and informed the guests ahead of time and we were pleased that they were very supportive. We have always been a proud supporter of Earth Hour because it benefits both this generation and next. It may be a small part but it’s vital to our mother Earth. We only have one planet and we need to protect and preserve it.”

Every year Tilal Liwa Hotel encourages hotel staff and guests to support Earth Hour, a worldwide event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) which encourages households and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
The UAE has been celebrating Earth Hour every year since 2008, with all seven emirates involved. It is the biggest environmental event of the year, and with each passing Earth Hour more and more people are showing their commitment to the planet.
