The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, the luxury shopping and dining destination, is proud to announce its partnership with Pink Caravan, a Pan UAE breast cancer initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 2016. The Pink Caravan activation will be taking place from Oct 27th – Nov 4th, where the shopping centre will embrace all things pink in support of the annual international health campaign to increase awareness of the disease including the cause, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

During this period, visitors to The Galleria on Al Maryah Island will be offered free and private screening exams and an opportunity in a dedicated seating lounge for discussions with breast cancer experts. Guests will receive pink roses and NStyle will also be supporting by providing nail service for female guests free of charge to be pampered whilst they wait. To show further commitment, hospitality ambassadors at The Galleria will be distributing pink balloons and breast cancer pins throughout the entire month of October.

The Pink Caravan team will provide an educational platform to communicate the causes, symptoms and methods of detection of breast cancer, using a mobile booth set up from “Friends of Cancer Patients,” a non-profit organization. The Galleria’s location offers those living and working in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi optimal access to breast cancer screening tests. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UAE and is one of the most preventable and curable of major life-threatening diseases.  If detected and treated in its early stages, the rate of recovery for those diagnosed at the earliest stage is 90 per cent, highlighting the necessity for early detection.

Commenting on the partnership with Pink Caravan, Charles Martinez, General Manager of The Galleria, said: “Breast Cancer awareness month in the UAE is gaining more support year on year and The Galleria wants to be a part of that. Our primary focus is on building community, encouraging engagement and being able to offer a unique experience. We are delighted to partner with Pink Caravan on such an important initiative. This programme enables us to help Pink Caravan facilitate early detection among people living and working across the Emirate and raise awareness on such an important cause.”

Commenting on behalf of Pink Caravan, Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Director General of FoCP and Head of PC Medical and Awareness Committee saidPink Caravan is passionately dedicated to educating the UAE community about early detection of breast cancer, and shopping malls provide an optimal platform to communicate the pink message with the community. We are enormously grateful to The Galleria for sustaining their support of Pink Caravan year after year. Such collaborations are vital to our mission as they enable us to educate people about the early signs of breast cancer and offer them a free breast screening service, extending our message of hope and support to the people of Abu Dhabi.

The Pink Caravan Ride is a pan UAE awareness trek, throughout the seven emirates including remote and outlying areas. Each year over 150 experienced equine riders join forces, garnering support across different sectors, bringing together schools, universities, corporations, Pink Caravan ambassadors and royalty.
