The 2nd Annual MENA Orthopaedics Discussed Latest Advances in Orthopaedic Surgeries

More than 300 orthopedic surgeons gathered over the last two days for the MENA Orthopaedics Congress which is supported by the UAE ministry of health and prevention and a number of leading medical authorities and associations including American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Indian Orthopaedic Association, Indonesian Orthopaedic Association, Sudanese Orthopaedic Surgeons Association and Bahrain Medical Society and supported by the American Hospital of Dubai.

The meeting which has concluded today, had more than 30 speakers and researchers presenting topics on different orthopedic areas such as joint surgeries, spine, infections and tumors in bones, and knee surgeries.  

Some of the local experts who joined the meeting are: Dr. Tarek Abuzakuk, Dip in Sports Medicine, CCT, Chief of Orthopaedics Department, American Hospital Dubai, UAE, presented a paper on Osteochondritis dissecans. It a common joint disorder in which cracks form in the cartilage and the underlying bone, Dr. Samih Tarabichi, a well-known Emirati surgeon, discussed the new trends in total knee replacements, which are very common due to the prevalence of advanced osteoarthritis and growth of deformity in older population and Dr. Sean Dudeney, MB, BCh, BAO, MMedSci, FRCSI, MCh, FRCS(Tr&Orth), Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Al Rahba Hospital, UAE, discussed the Management of metastatic bone disease, which is the third common location for metastasis, after the lung and liver.

‘We are proud to be hosting a regional Orthopedic Congress in the UAE, the conference was successful in attracting orthopedic surgeons from around the world and providing them with the right platform to discuss the latest trends in orthopedic surgeries in the region,’ said Dr. Doaa Said, Managing Director of Maarefah, the organizer of the congress.

‘Orthopaedic Medicine, is changing at a rapid pace with so many technologies involved to provide patients with high quality life, therefore there is a great need for such conferences, and we hope that the conference will grow over the years to attract more and more doctors from around the world to Dubai, which is becoming an important venue for medical conferences, we were proud to see people joining from gulf countries, north Africa, Asia Pacific and other region’, added Dr. Said.
