His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS) and AUS Enterprises (AUSE), called for activating effective partnerships between the public and private sectors to support scientific research and its applications. This was stated as he chaired the AUSE Board meeting held on the AUS campus today.

 

Sheikh Sultan expressed satisfaction at the progress of work at AUSE and also mandated that it continue strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors in the fields of research, development and technology by investing in projects that support the university and strategic initiatives in the academic, research, technology and real estate sectors.

 

The AUSE was established by an Amiri decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan as a holding company mandated to develop commercial activities with the aim to strengthen the financial resources of AUS. Earlier this year, another Amiri decree was passed by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan, mandating the establishment of the Research, Technology and Innovation (RTI) Park Free Zone Authority.

 

 

Sheikh Sultan had also approved AUSE’s operational budget and reviewed progress of its work, including the updated Law and the Bylaws of the Research, Technology and Innovation (RTI) Park, which provide for the establishment of free zone companies.

 

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah had earlier approved the final plan for the Research Technology and Innovation (RTI) Park, which adheres to the highest global standards used in designing technology parks, with a focus on developing its technology, infrastructure and architecture as well as building a sustainable environment to attract companies. Sheikh Sultan had also previously approved the first phase of the design of the RTI Park’s main buildings, which blends traditional Arab and Islamic architecture with modern and functional style.

 

At the meeting, the board approved the organizational structure and business plan of AUSE for the next stage, and reviewed the progress of projects it plans to undertake.
