SAEI signs agreement with SAPCO to explore renewable energy solutions for MRO Village project

Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI), a subsidiary of SAUDIA Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saudi Aramco Power Company (SAPCO), a wholly owned-Aramco subsidiary and leading group in the dynamic power industry, to identify a renewable energy solution for SAEI’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul MRO) Village project. The agreement was signed at the Future Aviation Forum in May by Captain Fahd Cynndy, CEO of SAEI and Mr. Abdulaziz AlNaim, CEO of SAPCO.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties will work closely together to identify a suitable renewable solution for the MRO Village project. The two parties aim to meet approximately 20% of the MRO Village project’s energy needs through renewable energy solutions.

SAPCO will operate as an impartial advisor through every stage of the process to activate and implement an energy solution. The agreement will actively support the sustainability objectives of Vision 2030, the Aviation Strategy, and the Saudi Green Initiative.

SAEI is embracing pioneering solutions to modern energy challenges. This initiative will aid in the creation of a renewable energy framework and comprehensive investment strategy that support the company’s emission reduction efforts.

Captain Fahd H. Cynndy, CEO of SAEI, speaking about the endeavor stated, “Identifying the right solutions to reduce the environmental impact of aviation needs a collective response. As an MRO organization we are exploring new ways of enhancing sustainability, this includes more advanced technology in wastewater treatment, exploring recycling at an operation level, and now this key relationship with SAPCO. As a global leader in energy, Saudi Arabia is emerging as wellspring of innovative and bold concepts for our abundant renewable natural resources, such as sunshine, can power our future. We are proud to be partnering with SAPCO to be at the forefront of this change, identifying renewable energy solutions to provide the MRO village with sustainable power.”

Mr. Abdulaziz AlNaim, CEO of SAPCO, shared his enthusiasm, stating: “We are pleased to partner with SAEI, the leading MRO provider in the Kingdom. SAPCO, as a sustainable energy pioneer seeks to provide the sector with electrical power solutions through its efficient, reliable, and independent dynamic power solutions, looks forward to advancing its sustainable solutions throughout one of the most significant MRO projects in the region.”

The agreement was signed as part of SAUDIA’s participation at the Future Aviation Forum in Riyadh. The forum paves the way for new business opportunities and encourages aviation industry companies to participate in the formulation of policies and regulations in line with the global trends. The event also focuses on innovation as well as sustainable sector growth from both an environmental and economic perspective.

SAEI’s MRO Village project at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport will provide a solid platform to sustain its growth by capturing SAUDIA’s out-of-Kingdom demand while strengthening in-house Saudi capabilities. The new MRO facility is set to increase SAEI’s total area from 59,500 m2 to 904,000 m. The state-of-art facility will incorporate 11 Aircraft Hangars, a 43,000 square meter supply chain and warehouse, and a purpose-built 21,000 square meter HQ. The project will also include a 127,000 square meter Jet Propulsion Center (JPC), the largest test cell for engine testing in the region.
