QAIA receives over 500,000 passengers in May

The Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) received 583,662 passengers during May of 2019, recording a decrease of 3.8 percent compared to the same month of 2018, according to statistics released by the Airport International Group (AIG).

The airport witnessed a decline in aircraft movement by 2.8 percent, registering 6,061 movements, and handled 9,243 tones of cargo, a 2.5 percent drop, the group said in a press release on Tuesday.

During the period from January to May this year, the airport received a total of 3.312 million passengers, a surge of 5.2 percent, compared to the first five months of 2018.

Meanwhile, aircraft movement amounted to 30,524, an increase of by 4.6 percent, while cargo fell by 6.6 percent reaching 40,830 tons.

AIG CEO Kjeld Binger said: "Our record for the first five months of this year was positive overall, despite the slight decline in our results for May, which is mainly due to the slow pace of passenger traffic, which was expected during the holy month of Ramadan."

"We expect promising numbers for the next few months, especially over the summer holiday season," he added.
