Prince Khaled to head traffic safety panel

 A high-level traffic safety committee will be constituted in Makkah province under the chairmanship of Emir Prince Khaled Al-Faisal. A decision in this regard was taken by the first meeting of the executive committee of Makkah Development Authority.

Prince Khaled chaired the meeting of the committee at his office in Jeddah, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

The committee’s main objective is to enhance the traffic safety standard in various governorates in the region. Addressing the meeting, Prince Khaled issued directives to carry out a quick study on accident-prone areas in the region and suggest measures to address the problem.

He underlined the need for utilizing highly advanced technologies in increasing traffic safety standards.

The emir reviewed the strategic plan for the authority after widening its scope of work. He directed the authority to give top priority to the development of the holy sites as well as the unplanned districts in the next phase. He also approved the formation of sub committees for the authority.

The meeting endorsed implementing some projects at the holy sites on a priority basis. The implementation of the projects will start after getting approval from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

The committee also discussed development plans for the unplanned districts of Kudwa, Jabal Al-Sharashif and Qouz Al-Nakasa in Makkah as well as some districts in Jeddah, including Al-Nuzha.

The meeting also reviewed projects in Jeddah such as public transport system, King Faisal Road, South Corniche, Gulf of Salman project, the ring road, as well as some projects in Taif, including the international airport and the Technology Oasis.

The executive committee is comprised of representatives of nine ministries, as well as mayors of Makkah, Jeddah and Taif and the authority›s secretary-general as its members.
