NWC: SAR4 billion worth of projects to develop Jeddah infrastructure

NWC is continuously developing the services and infrastructure of the water and environmental services sectors in Jeddah in line with its strategic plan to increase operational capacity and coverage in populated areas, meet the increasing demand for water and provide its services according to the highest international standards.

NWC also declared that it would implement several projects to build 21 strategic storage tanks with a total capacity of 4 million cubic meters; building and qualifying several influent pump stations, treatment plants, pipelines, main and sub networks; and increasing the number of water and wastewater house connections.

Eng. Fawaz Bahlas, Executive Directorate of JCBU, said NWC has already implemented stage one of the strategic storage project in Braiman by building 11 concrete tanks that are worth more than SAR742 million and carry a capacity of over 2 billion cubic meters. This project aims to serve all Jeddah suburbs and achieve water security in emergency cases.

Bahlas explained that the Company is now working on implementing stage two of the SAR374 million strategic storage project, which has a capacity of 1 million cubic meters. This stage comprises building six tanks with a capacity of 166,000 cubic meters each. More than 70 percent of the project has been completed and it will be fully operational during the fourth quarter of 2016.

NWC has also started implementing stage three of the SAR451 million strategic storage project in Al-Faisaliyah area that has a capacity of 1 million cubic meters. This stage involves building four tanks with the capacity of 250,000 cubic meters each. Half of the project will be completed by the end of this year, and it will be fully operational in 2017.

Bahlas revealed that the project also includes building a SAR96 million GRP water pipeline, 15 km long and 1,600mm in diameter, from the Al-Faisaliyah station to Braiman tanks. The project aims to feed all Jeddah suburbs from the Al-Faisaliyah and Braiman strategic tanks.

NWC, said Bahlas, is developing the infrastructure for wastewater projects in Jeddah. A triple treatment plant for wastewater has been established in Matar-1, north of Jeddah, with a capacity of 250,000 cubic meters, and another with the same capacity has been established in Khomrah-4. Both projects are worth SAR666 million.

The Khomrah-3 triple treatment plant has been prequalified to reach a capacity of 140,000 cubic meters as part of a SAR136 million project. In addition, NWC has established a SAR150 million triple treatment plant for industrial wastewater (in Al-Khomrah Al-Sinaiyah) with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters, and built and operated the SAR418 million southern influent pump station, which has a daily capacity of 1 million cubic meters.

Bahlas said NWC has completed 40,000 wastewater house connections worth SAR552 million to serve the Al-Safa, Al-Marwah, Al-Nozahah, Al-Rabwah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Rawdah, Al-Khaldiyah Al-Shate, Al-Rihab, Al-Zahra, Al-Bawadi, Al-Salamah, Al-Sawaed, Obaid Al-Sadi Plan, Al-Tashlih, Al-Alfiyah, Al-Wahah, Al-Ajawid, Al-Sanabil, Al-Muntazahat, Bin Hamad Plan, kilo 16 north of Jeddah old Makkah road and Al-Adel Plan south of Jeddah.
