Organisers of the Spartan Race and the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) proudly kicked off its first workout sessions yesterday (Friday) which took place on Flag Island in Sharjah, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.

The workout sessions were part of a campaign to promote the upcoming “Spartan Race” in Sharjah, which is set to take place on November 18th, 2016 at the Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism destination. The new edition of the race is organised by the “Spartan Race” in collaboration with the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), XDubai and Reebok.

Registration and access to the upcoming weekly workout sessions are free for all participants for these sessions, and will be taking place each Friday starting from October 7th 2016 until November 11th 2016, the last Friday before the grand event in Mleiha.

The first workout session featured a series of physical and stamina focused training exercises, giving participants a full body workout and endurance exercises conducted by a certified fitness trainer. Each workout session will continue on featuring a series of physical challenges engaging audiences on key elements, facts and entertaining activities in a bid to promote health, fitness and wellness.

“The Spartan Race events are considered one of the world’s biggest and toughest events for physical strength, endurance and agility. We are very proud to have Sharjah host this huge fitness event that continues to attract audiences and fitness-enthusiasts from all around the world. We worked closely with the organisers and prepared a series of workout sessions engaging audiences on Sharjah as a key destination for health and fitness, as well as gave audiences a taste of what they can experience should they decide to participate at the Sharjah Spartan Race event in the Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism project,” said Mahmoud Deemas, Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism Project Manager.

Deemas added: “We were very pleased with the turnout from the first workout session, as it gathered around 110 participants who took part in the most intense set of physical exercise session on Friday. This was also highly celebrated by event organisers seeing that the first workout session in Sharjah has gathered more participants than the first workout sessions for other Spartan Race events in the UAE and the region this year. This truly reflected the growing numbers of athletic and fitness fan-based that resides in Sharjah and its growing demand for advanced-level fitness events such as this one.”

Deemas continued: “Our message to our community, residents, tourists and visitors from Sharjah, UAE and across the MENA region is that our existing destinations in Sharjah are all equipped with facilities that truly enable fitness lovers to experience their exercise routines under an ideal and motivating environment. We’re confident that the workout sessions as well as the main event “Spartan Race” in Sharjah will enable participants to experience the perfect blend of mother nature and fitness.”

Online bookings for the Spartan Race are opened up and can be made through the event’s official website: www.spartanarabia.com.

The 1st ever ‘Spartan Beast’ in the Middle East, and the most formidable of the Spartan Race series will be inaugurated at the Mleiha – Sharjah race, which is aimed at seasoned athletes trained physically and mentally for tougher terrain and bigger obstacles, the Spartan Beast will be a true test of grit and inner strength as participants sign up for a 20+ km course dotted with more than 30 obstacles.
