Matt Terry Crowned X Factor Winner 2016

Matt Terry has been crowned X Factor winner 2016. The 23-year-old beat Sharon Osbourne's finalist, Finnish singer Saara Aalto, to clinch the title.

The waiter from Bromley fell over and shouted "oh my God" as the winner was announced by host Dermot O'Leary. Breaking down in tears, Matt said: "Thank you. Thank you so much everybody." He then picked mentor Nicole Scherzinger up.

Sarah Al Jarman, Director at Dubai One, said: “This was the grand finale to a hugely engaging series for viewers, with the popular show followed very closely by a Dubai audience hungry to watch a number of talented singers. As the only free-to-air channel that is exclusively airing the hugely popular talent show to audiences in the Middle East, we are realising our aim to provide engaging family entertainment in line with the dynamic, modern and progressive spirit of Dubai.”

It is the second win for Nicole, who mentored James Arthur, the winner of the 2012 series. Terry picked Sam Smith's Bond theme tune, Writing's On The Wall, as his favourite song of the show. His final song was a rendition of Randy Crawford's 1980 hit One Day I'll Fly Away. Host Dermot O'Leary said there had been a total of 6.4 million votes cast. He also revealed Ed Sheeran has written this year's winner's single, When Christmas Comes Around.

Star guests included Kylie Minogue with Final 2 Everybody's Free (To Feel Good), Madness with Mr Apples/Our House/It Must Be Love and Little Mix featuring Charlie Puth with Oops/Touch.
