Continuous innovation in neurosurgical procedures will be key to the ongoing excellence of healthcare delivery in the Kingdom, U.S.-based healthcare experts said ahead of the 11th Saudi Arabia Neurosurgical Society (SANS) and Arab Pediatric Neurosurgical Society (APNS) joint conference meeting in the capital next week.

Neurological surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the central nervous system, to include the brain and spinal cord.

The joint conference is one of the largest neurosurgery meetings in the Middle East, and the largest in the GCC region, with more than 1,000 active participants from both local and international institutions expected to attend.

Dr. Essam AlShail, chairman of the event has said that he hopes the meeting will focus on the technical advancement of neurosurgery in the field of inventions and innovation which will lead to more surgical confidence.

Top-ranked U.S. hospital, Cleveland Clinic, will be sending two, leading consultant physicians in neurology – Drs. Hubert Fernandez, one of the world’s experts on movement disorders, and Pablo Recinos, an internationally recognized neurosurgeon – to speak at the gathering.  

The leading U.S. healthcare institution enjoys a long and rich history in the Kingdom, dating back to the 1970s, and its ‘patients first’ model of patient care serves as the basis for the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh founded in 1975.
