Joelle Mardinian recreates the classic Arabian Eye for today’s modern woman

Throughout the Middle East region, Arab women are revered for their enticing and mesmerizing eyes. The history behind the Arabian eye is said to have started in ancient Egypt; women used kohl to define their eyes as eyeliner, and copper and ash was combined to create an earthy eye shadow. This look has given Arab women an air of mystery for centuries, and bringing it to the 21st century, Joelle Mardinian, Max Factor's Regional Creative Director, has recreated a Modern Arabian Eye look using Maxfactor’s Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Eyeliner and Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara.

“The Modern Arabian Eye adds the right amount of drama, giving that glamorous touch to almost any outfit. Max Factor’s Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Liner can add the bold intensity required of this look in one sweep across the brow, while the Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara transforms the look completely by creating velvety, dark lashes and really adding volume,” said Joelle.

The Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Eyeliner’s intense black, velvet formula glides on smoothly and dries quickly for chic sophistication or bold drama. The paddle-shaped tip has the intensity of a liquid eyeliner with the precision of a pencil. It is perfect for creating multiple effects – thick and dramatic, or fine and elegant. Dialing up the drama to suit any look has never been easier.

For added drama, no Arabian eye look would be complete without the Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara. Just one sweep of the unique Lavish Volume wand, with its anti-clump bristles that coat and separate lashes evenly for definition and volume, ensures that lashes are coated in a rich, mousse-like formula to deliver fuller, darker and more volumised lashes. This smudge and smear proof mascara is the secret to darker, velvety lashes for a smoldering smoky eye look.

Speaking of the look that she created, Joelle said: “While the Arabian Eye gives its wearer an enigmatic look, getting this look yourself doesn’t need to be mysterious. I have created a simple step by step guide on getting the most drama out of these two Max Factor products – and I promise you that this fail safe method will have you looking stunning in almost no time at all!”

"For the Arabian Eye Look I used Max Factor’s latest eyeliner and drew a thin line from the inner corner of the eye. As I continued out towards the outer corner of the upper eyelid, I made the line thicker - then I added a very sharp tail cat eye look in an upwards direction.

Starting again from the inner eye, I joined the eyeliner from the upper lid to the lower and drew it right to half way under the pupil and I left the outside bottom corner untouched. You can either apply white or beige inside the eye to strengthen the look, or you can leave it bare. With this particular look, I generously added Mascara on the top and lower lashes.

We can add little  bronzer on the eyelid or just leave the eye bare, with the eyeliner showing. The eyebrows can be filled in to give the eyes more power and a stronger look."
