Jeddah symposium on ophthalmology begins Wednesday

The third International Red Sea Ophthalmology Symposium is set to begin on Jan. 4 in Jeddah.
It will be held under the supervision of Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al-Saud, president of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society.
The four-day symposium, organized by the National Guard Hospital and the Eye Hospital, is expected to attract more than 2,500 physicians, specialists and opticians.
International and local experts will discuss issues concerning advanced techniques, modern treatment methods and better vision for patients. An exhibition will update attendees on the latest in the ophthalmic and optical technology.
Ali Al Khairi, head of the organizing committee, said the symposium will provide the delegates a platform to discuss ophthalmic issues, focus on continuing medical education and contribute to advancing the subject in the Kingdom.
“I would like to thank our international guest speakers and national speakers, collaborating organizations and the executive board of Saudi Ophthalmological Society (SOS) for their support and cooperation as well as (the) scientific program committee. I believe it will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas and will be personally rewarding,” he said.
Saeed Abdullah Alghamdi, chair of the scientific program committee, said that the symposium will give training to ophthalmology consultants in Saudi Arabia’s Western Region.
The symposium will give updates on subjects such as cataracts, refractive surgery, glaucoma and ophthalmic anesthesia. There will be lectures, courses, workshops, live surgery, wet-labs as well as an exhibition showcasing the latest equipment.
