FLOW, a progressive logistics company that is part of the Ghassan Ahmed Alsulaiman Group, has recently announced the start of its new Omni-channel and e-commerce fulfillment center in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), a bespoke facility for IKEA Saudi Arabia.

 

The new facility, which has been tailor-designed to service IKEA’s e-commerce and pay-and-go requirements, will be launched in two phases, to meet the growing needs of the customers. The first phase will be operational in February 2017, where a total of 1,800 orders per day may be picked, packed and dispatched. The second phase will handle up to 5,000 orders a day in two shifts with the possibility to increase capacity further with 24 hour operation.

We at FLOW have developed our services to meet the growing requirement for reliable, cost-effective e-commerce fulfillment and contract logistics and we are ready to fill this gap in the market,” Courtney added.

The automated facility will cover 75,000 square meters, with the high bay warehouse at a height of 37.5 meters. The facility being designed with multi-floors, producing a total floor area of 117,600 square meters, making it the largest e-commerce fulfillment facility of its kind in KAEC. This initial design will be able to accommodate 180,000 Euro or Industrial pallet equivalent storage positions. The facility is designed in such a way to cater to both full pallets and fine pick e-commerce parcel solutions. It will operate 16 hours a day, with only 180 people per shift for phase1.

 

FLOW will be introducing a number of unique solutions to meet IKEA’s requirements, including an Oxy-reduct (oxygen reduction solution) that will prevent fires whilst eliminating the risk of water damage to the products and the internal material handling systems.
