First Corporate Patent Awarded to 3M Gulf

3M, a science-based company that inspires creative collaboration, has awarded the first Gulf corporate patent to a senior technology application engineer from 3M Gulf. The achievement lines up with 3M’s vision to inspire its employees with creativity and innovation, fuelled by the company’s recently adopted new corporate identity approach - 3M Science. Applied to Life TM.

The patent created by Ahmed Ghazy, Senior Technology Application Engineer – Communication Markets Division, 3M Middle East & Africa, from Dubai office is a 3M patent that has been given to him based on his efforts to create an Embedded Communication Enclosure, which is mainly used to house and support communication devices and cables inside homes for FTTX (fiber to the anywhere) projects.

“We are proud to have creative minds like Ahmed, who have been contributing to the success of our company and the invention of new products that aim to ensure people across the globe can lead healthy and fulfilling lives,” said Seungbae Min, Research and Development Head, 3M Middle East & Africa. “It is the unshakable commitment of our employees to research and development that has allowed us to deliver outstanding technology, products and innovation to our customers worldwide. Tying into our new corporate identity - 3M Science. Applied to LifeTM - we hope to create even more exciting opportunities for our employees to achieve creative and innovative strides.”

On average, 3M issues over 3,000 patents worldwide each year. The applications of these patents are dispersed within a wide range of industries that are as diverse as the company itself, ranging from sterilization products and healthcare adhesives to consumer electronics and reflective traffic signs. Last year, 3M earned its 100,000th patent, a testament to the power of its scientific engine.

The Embedded Communication Enclosure facilitates a two-stage operating interface which ensures the communication devices and cables avoid being undesirably influenced or accessed during frequently changing and maintaining terminal jumpers. The patent also ensures the provision of separated working interfaces to end users and service providers, and offers flexibility to manage Telecom Patch cords in the FTTX system.

Nearly six percent of 3M’s annual sales are invested in Research and Development, which includes funding for multiple technology platforms.
