Two dominating final performances crowned two worthy winning teams in European side TopBlokes and Argentina’s True Neutral as Gamers Without Borders’ Rocket League tournament climaxed on Sunday night.
TopBlokes – comprising Andy ‘Kassio’ Landais (France), Archie ‘Archie’ Pickthall (UK), and Reece ‘RamS’ Mullins (UK) – saw off British rivals Team Singularity to take the weekend tournament’s EMEA crown after a tricky but ultimately successful route to the final.
Their 4-2 win was a fair reflection of their deciding match and earned the Europeans a $200,000 share of Gamers Without Borders’ $10million charity prize fund – money they chose to donate to UNICEF, in support of the organization’s work in distributing the COVID-19 vaccine in the world’s most vulnerable nations.
In the tournament’s Americas division, True Neutral swept aside their final opponents XSET comfortably to bag their $200,000 top prize.
The Argentinian side’s 4-0 victory – earned by Facundo ‘Shad’ Vallerino, Lautaro ‘ajg’ Gusinsky, Victor Duran ‘Reysbull’ Parra, actually of Chile – put their US adversaries firmly to the sword and earned team True Neutral a deserved victory.
Like their European counterparts, they too donated their $200,000 charity winnings to UNICEF, cementing the organisation’s position as the greatest benefactor of this year’s Gamers Without Borders to date.
Sixteen teams in total from across the Americas and EMEA took part in the Rocket Legue tournament, including its two winners, FURIA Esport, Alpine Esports, XSET, Charlotte Phoenix, Oxygen Esports, eUnited, Flashes of Brilliance, Dignitas, SK Gaming, Team Queso, Galaxy Racer, Endpoint CeX, Team Singularity and Sandrock Gaming.
Together, the tournament’s top performing teams shared a $1million prize fund, every last cent of which they donated to UNICEF and Gamers Without Borders’ other partner charities: GAVI, Direct Relief, the International Medical Corps and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Center.
Being held under the name of ‘No One Left Behind, Gamers Without Borders’ second edition is connecting gamers on the most popular game titles together in the battle against COVID-19.
