Ericsson small cell solutions empower digitization beyond the operator space

Ericsson’s Customer Unit in the United Arab Emirates recently showcased its small cells offerings and solutions at SCWS MENA, which was held from January 18-19 at Conrad Hotel in Dubai.

Ericsson showcased how its small cells solutions will not only be key in delivering the mobile broadband of the future, but how it will drive the success of smart cities by providing dense mobile access to support a variety of smart city applications. Ericsson explored the benefits of small cells connectivity and enterprises, and the wireless evolution.

Small cells are key in the development of 5G architectures. The technology its self is capable of improving the network performance in certain areas; however, integrated Small Cells (macro and small cells combined) deliver high per-user capacity and rate coverage everywhere, with the potential to improve performance in the macro network by offloading traffic generated in hotspots.

Moreover, during the event, Ericsson established that it was focusing on the continuous improvement of cost, battery, coverage, and meeting the new challenge of supporting massive numbers of IoT device connections as well as the varying requirements of different use cases.

Speaking about Ericsson’s participation at the event, Rafiah Ibrahim, President of Ericsson, Middle East and Africa, said: “By enabling unlimited access to information anywhere and anytime, 5G will generate numerous benefits to people and societies. Realizing this transformative vision requires fast adaptation to important technologies such as Small Cells. Our Small Cell architectures and the use of unlicensed bands, such as Wi-Fi, will become increasingly strategic components of an operator’s 5G strategy.”

Through Ericsson's flexible service and business models, mobile operators can choose their level of involvement. For operators who wish to deploy and manage indoor networks themselves, Ericsson offers easy-to-deploy hardware and installation tools. Ericsson Global Services offers a comprehensive range of small cell services, from strategic network analysis through design, integration, optimization and monitoring, right up to a fully managed Small Cells as a Service (SCaaS) offering. With SCaaS, complete ownership of the hardware and deployment is handled through Ericsson Global Services, allowing for a simple and easy go-to-market model for indoor opportunities.
