Ericsson announces winners of “smart schools” competition in Sudan

Ericsson announced last Thursday the final winners of its “Smart Schools” competition 2015 in Khartoum, Sudan.
For the first time in Sudan, Ericsson organized this competition that focuses on the role that the Networked Society can play in fostering innovation among secondary school students and through education.
Participating students were asked to come up with ideas of new inventions that will enable the Networked Society where everything that can benefit from a connection will be connected. On this occasion Ericsson announced launching its social media campaign #ienable across the Middle East stressing on the belief of the important role that students’ innovation can play in enabling the Networked Society.

“The Smart Schools competition in Sudan reflects our belief in the young generations’ great potential to come up with unique and exciting ideas to shape the Networked Society. Those passionate students and their ideas will help to bring the Networked Society to life and will change the world for the better. It was great to see those insights and ideas that the students brought into the final round,” said Isil Yalcin, President of Ericsson North East Africa.

This is the second year for Ericsson to have this initiative in the region. Last year the initiative took place in Egypt and Oman and this year it is taking place in Sudan for the first time.

Hiba Salih from Khartoum American School won the first place for her idea “Self-Watering Plant”, Prateek Samal from the same school won the second place for his idea “Holographic Teaching”. Two students got equal results so both of them won the third place: Mariss Mohtar from Khartoum International Community School for his idea “Heart Watch” and Talha Kayani from Khartoum American School for his idea “X-Help”.


The winners were awarded a round trip during the summer vacation to Ericsson’s Experience Centre in Sweden where they will have the opportunity to explore more around the ICT fast evolution and what the future is still holding. Also, they will get the chance to present their ideas to Ericsson research experts who will study the implementation of their ideas in real life.
