Dubai Culture Partners with Samsung to Enrich SIKKA Art Fair 2018 Programme with Digital Art

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, partners with Samsung Gulf Electronics to bring digital art to SIKKA Art Fair 2018, which takes place under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture, and running from 17th to 26th March at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.

The eighth edition of the Authority’s flagship Dubai Art Season initiative will feature a dedicated ‘Creatopia & The Frame Art Gallery ’, where both SIKKA and selected Creatopia digital art will be displayed on Samsung’s ‘The Frame’ TV screens. The Frame — a TV that ingeniously doubles as a digital display for photographs and works of art — was created to seamlessly bring art into people’s homes and everyday lives. SIKKA Art Fair visitors will also be offered the opportunity to win ‘The Frame’ by entering a social media competition under the hashtag #ArtxTech.  The competition would require the visitors to visit the Creatopia and Samsung Frame art gallery and capture images of their favourite painting showcased on The FRAME and share it on their Instagram using hashtag.

Abdulla Al Hammadi, Acting Director of Projects and Events at Dubai Culture, commented: “In line with our mandate to fulfil the Dubai Plan 2021 vision for a city of happy, creative and empowered people who proudly celebrate their cultural identities, SIKKA Art Fair aims to spread the joy of art throughout the community by celebrating the region’s home-grown talents via a range of exciting exhibitions, art installations, workshops, film, music and performing arts. Our partnership with Samsung supports this endeavour by enhancing the fair’s rich programme with digital art and providing SIKKA and Creatopia artists with a state-of-the-art new medium for showcasing their work.”

Jerric Wong, Head of Visual Display division at Samsung Gulf Electronics said: “Samsung’s The Frame seamlessly and elegantly merges between art and technology. This is why we believe that this Samsung TV is the perfect digital canvas to display the creations of Sikka and Creatopia artists. We are very happy to partner with Dubai Culture and be part of the #ArtxTech competition and to present an innovative way to showcase art that enhances the prestigious Sikka Art Fair’s visitor experience of the ‘Creatopia and The Frame Art Gallery’.”

Creatopia (www.creatopia.ae) is a Dubai government-empowered virtual community for creativity. It was launched as part of Dubai Culture’s mandate to motivate, inspire and connect both established and emerging members of the culture, arts and heritage communities by sparking a creative revolution online. Tapping into the social media generation, the site has attracted artistic minds from the world over, including a high concentration of Creatopians in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

SIKKA Art Fair complements the city-wide activation of cultural events that will take place during the fifth edition of Dubai Art Season, which will run throughout March and April 2018 and feature events such as the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Art Dubai, DIFC Art Nights and the Middle East Film & Comic Con, among hundreds of other initiatives.
