Child Safety Campaign Launches “@shjchildsafety” Account on Universal Children’s Day

Under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), the Child Safety Campaign – an SCFA initiative – launched its first informational social media account on child safety, yesterday. The account’s launch coincided with Universal Children’s Day, and comes in line with the Campaign’s objectives of achieving community awareness about child safety and wellbeing in Sharjah and the UAE.

The @shjchildsafety account on Twitter and Instagram, and soon on Facebook, includes all that is relevant to the safety and protection of children in terms of behavioural, social, moral, religious, educational, psychological and cultural aspects. It seeks to achieve familial and social stability for children by providing them with a comprehensive, secure and healthy environment that will empower them and enable them to develop their skills. The informational content will be prepared and approved by a range of certified specialists and advisors across the country, who are able to provide integrated content on children’s wellbeing in their various areas of expertise.

“We have launched this informational social media account following the vision and the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who recognises the need to empower future generations, as well as develop and protect them, ensuring their full rights. This account will promote the vision of the Campaign, which seeks to be a unique international role model in the field of community awareness about child safety,” said Hanadi Saleh Al Yafei, Department Director at the SCFA, Head of the Organising Committee of the Child Safety Campaign.

She stressed that this step aims to bring child safety awareness and practices to the most commonly used communication interfaces in the UAE, using modern social media. Doing so will ensure that child safety best practices will reach the highest number of parents in the region. She also pointed out that the content on @shjchildsafety is suitable for all segments of any society, and will be accessible to everyone around the world.

Hanadi Al Yafei invited all parents, teachers, and experts on child safety to send their comments and suggestions about the Campaign’s new account to the following email address: child.safety.scfa@gmail.com.

The new account aims to spread awareness in Arabic among all those who are directly engaged with children’s safety – parents, teachers, experts, instructors, social workers, educators and older siblings. English content will also be developed at a later stage.

The initiative presents yet another achievement for the Child Safety Campaign, which has recently concluded its second phase that was aimed at raising children’s awareness of the concept of child abuse, and empowering them with the means to protect themselves. The third phase of the campaign will focus on cyber security for children, given the fast-growing number of websites on the internet and the increasing number of children with access to it.

The Child Safety Campaign is an initiative of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) that was launched under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the SCFA. It seeks to promote awareness about children’s safety, protection, and social stability in order to ensure children are physically and psychologically healthy in a stable, family environment.
