CAREEM becomes the first and only car booking app to sign MOU with Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Qatar

CAREEM, the region’s leading car booking app, announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Transport and Communications for the purpose of regulating and licensing the ride-hailing service technology in Qatar. The MOU follows recent moves by the authorities in Qatar to regulate the rapidly expanding transportation industry.

H.E Sheikh Hamad Bin Ghanim Al-Thani, Director of the Quality Performance Department for Land Transportation Services division and Ibrahim Manna, General Manager at CAREEM signed an agreement allowing the popular car-hailing app to connect CAREEM Captains (drivers) to customers. CAREEM is currently the first and only car booking platform to have completed this step required by the Qatari authorities.

“We have been proactively working with the Ministry of Transport and Communication to understand the regulations set forth and to ensure that we are fully compliant” said Ibrahim Manna, General Manager of Emerging Markets at CAREEM.

“Our passion at CAREEM is simplifying the lives of people by providing them with a reliable, safe and affordable means of transportation. With this MOU we will continue to follow this passion as we move forward and expand operations in Qatar." added Manna.

CAREEM entered this market in 2014 with a clear mission: to improve the lives of customers and captains and build an institution, one that would continue to make lasting changes and that will have a profound influence on a whole region and industry. With 3 million registered users to date from more than 28 cities in the MENA region and Pakistan, along with an increasing fleet of more than 50,000 Captains, CAREEM is re-inventing the current state of transportation. In Qatar alone, CAREEM has seen strong 30% growth month on month.
