Ajyal Riyali: An Innovative Program to Strengthen Financial Literacy Awareness Among Middle Schoolers with the Ministry of Education and SEDCO Holding

SEDCO Holding, the leading specialist in private wealth management, held a recognition event for the ambassadors of the Ajyal Riyali program, which aims to enable middle school students to assume their financial responsibilities through day-to-day activities and transactions inside and outside the classroom. The program also aspires to help students define clear and achievable goals by engaging in daily business transactions. Ajyal Riyali hopes to implant financial concepts in the minds of students to help them recognize the importance of financial budgeting and the necessity of monitoring sources of income and personal expenses. The program also seeks to instill the concept of volunteer work among students so they can identify different ways through which individuals can help one another.

The recognition event was held on 4 April 2019 at the SEDCO Holding Group HQ in the attendance of 10 of the program’s educators, in addition to the program supervisors and representatives from the Ministry of Education and SEDCO Holding. The event included two program evaluation sessions with the participation of the teachers who implemented the pilot phase. The sessions were followed by the recognition ceremony, during which the preliminary results of Ajyal Riyali were showcased along with inspiring stories from the program ambassadors, who were recognized for their efforts.

Attendees from the Ministry of Education included Director of Program Management and Student Training Dr. Khalid Al Abd Al Salam, Head of Social Activity in the Student Activity Directorate Ms. Sahar Sabbagh, and Head of General Programs and Training Mr. Ahmed Al Zahrani.

Ajyal Riyali is a fun practical experience in the form of a game designed to raise financial awareness among middle school students, who engage in various in-classroom activities followed by transactions done outside the classroom. The game is implemented during the weekly activity class over the course of four classes in order to promote financial culture.

The game is applied in the classroom through interactions between the teachers and students as well as transactions between students throughout the program. It also includes volunteer work outside the classroom, which the students are rewarded for in line with the Reward Cards system.

In his statement, SEDCO Holding CEO Mr. Hasan Al Jabri stated: “The initial launch of Ajyal Riyali has achieved great success, and during the next school year we will launch the program on a larger scale to include more schools. I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to the educational ambassadors who helped bring this program to life, as well as all the entities that cooperated with us to help the program succeed and achieve its objectives, including the Ministry of Education and the program representatives.”

For his part Khalid AlAbd Al Salam commented: “The event was very useful in identifying the initial results of the Ajyal Riyali program, which represents the continuation of the successes of the Riyali program and its valuable contributions towards spreading financial awareness in line with its agreement with the Ministry of Education to reach two million beneficiaries by the year 2020. We at the Ministry of Education are very interested in such contributions that enrich knowledge and promote cooperation and unity between the government and the private sector.”
