Seven hundred and thirty villages in the Madinah region will be linked with the country’s national mobile network this year, bringing the total number of hamlets connected to 1,863.
The decision was taken during a meeting between Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammed Al-Suwaiyel on Wednesday. Abdul Aziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, governor of the Communication and Information Technology Commission was also present during the discussions held in Madinah.
The prince was also told that 1,078 towers have been erected in parts of the region that would eventually benefit about 320,000 people. Khalid bin Hussein Biyare, chief executive officer of Saudi Telecommunications Company, was also present at the briefing.
Prince Faisal was also briefed on the e-government services that are being introduced to link all departments and ministries. Prince Faisal launched six electronic services in March, which were scheduled for completion in 90 days.
