At the 4th Oman Energy and Water Conference and Exhibition, organized by the Public Authority for Electricity and Water in partnership with Omanexpo, from April 30 to May 2,

Siemens is highlighting today the future of the power and water industry by showcasing comprehensive examples on how companies can increase their competitiveness through digitalization.

With the expansion in renewable energy projects, Oman is working to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by embracing new technologies to create a reliable and more diversified energy mix. To further support the Sultanate to achieve its goals, Siemens Gamesa, the company’s renewable energy arm, is showcasing a wide range of wind turbine models, designed for different conditions.

Featured solutions will cover the entire lifecycle of plants – from planning through operation and maintenance as well as digital services, helping to sustainably reduce energy consumption and lower overall cost. These include Siemens’ gas turbines as well as the company’s cross-fleet of power services that improve life-cycle performance of power generation equipment, whether it was manufactured by Siemens or other OEMs.

Speaking today, at 1:30 p.m., Fahmi Abufool, Sales and Marketing Manager for Siemens Power Generation Services in the Middle East will be exploring the topic of spot market and what is required in order to ensure flexibility and efficiency of energy mix. On Day 2, at 9:30 a.m., Umair Ali, Senior Business Development Manager for Siemens Gamesa in the Middle East, will discuss the future of renewable energy in the Sultanate. Cyber security will also be a core element of Siemens’ participation. Syamak Bahmanyar, Director Digitalization and Cyber Security for Siemens in the Middle East will address, on the same day at 1:15 p.m., how regional energy and water utilities can keep their critical infrastructure safe against the persistent and highly sophisticated cyber threats.

Other innovations that will be featured are Siemens’ 3D-printed models for the company’s SGT-400 and SGT-800 gas turbines as well as a number of spare parts for industrial gas turbines, completely produced using Additive Manufacturing technology. 

Maintaining stability is increasingly important in today’s energy mix, which features a growing share of renewables, and where it is often necessary to compensate for fluctuations in power supply. With this in mind, Massei will deliver a keynote address on “Producing Green Hydrogen” during the Oman Solar Forum. Speaking on May 2, Massei will explain why hydrogen is an ideal solution as a multi-functional energy carrier and storage concept, and how it can enable large-scale energy storage. Siemens Gamesa experts will also participate in the roundtable discussions.
