Sharjah Girl Guides Share Spirit of the Union For National Day Celebrations

As the UAE marks 46 years since the founding of the nation and reflects on its ambitious past and its spectacular achievements, Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) is helping the country’s citizens, residents, tourists and visitors to take part in the celebrations by sharing a message of pride, unity and joy.

The girls, made up of Brownies and Guides aged 7-15 years are touring Al Qasba in Sharjah and City Walk in Dubai in a branded vehicle with speakers, distributing flags, pins and balloons. The gesture also aligns with the UAE Year of Giving and SGG’s ongoing mission to promote culture, identity and community responsibility.

The events provide a great opportunity for everyone to pay tribute to the country, whatever their nationality, and appreciate the dynamic journey the UAE has travelled in less than five decades from its birth in 1971 to its highly respected position on a global stage today.

The girls are displaying a glimpse of the nation’s proud heritage as the tour continues, as they sing Emirati folk songs while wearing traditional national dress.

Shaikha Abdulaziz Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, believes that the celebration of National Day is the perfect occasion for the girls to reflect on their own goals and values and promote a sense of belonging and allegiance.

“Marking the 46th anniversary of the UAE helps us to remember the foundations on which our nation was built and its goals of a fair society, a desire to succeed and its commitment to invest in the generations to follow.

“These are the same moral codes which Sharjah Girl Guides instils in its members while emphasising justice, loyalty and the need to give back to society. Sharing the joy and happiness in celebrating National Day helps us all to achieve those values on this very special occasion.”

Having completed the first part of their celebrations at Al Qasba in Sharjah on Wednesday, five Brownies, five Guides and five staff members will continue their tour at City Walk in Dubai on National Day, December 2, from 3:30 – 5:30 PM.

The guiding movement was first established in Sharjah in 1973, after which it blossomed through all seven Emirates, giving rise to the Girl Guides Association of the United Arab Emirates in 1979. Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SGG aims to inspire and nurture future generations to become progressive global citizens by providing a platform for girls to develop to their fullest potential.
