Saudi heritage, culture in spotlight at Cairo book fair

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Egypt, Osama Nugali, inaugurated the Kingdom’s pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair 2019.
Nugali, who is also the permanent Saudi representative to the Arab League, toured the pavilion, in which various ministries, government agencies and publishing houses are taking part.
He was briefed on the pavilion’s content and how it reflects the Kingdom’s history, culture, civilization and heritage.
In his speech, Nugali commended the pavilion’s content and pointed out that it is the largest at the fair.
He said the pavilion reflects the distinguished ties and the extent of cultural exchange between the Kingdom and Egypt. “It also highlights Egypt as a cultural and heritage beacon for the region and the world,” he added.
The Kingdom’s participation in the fair aims to introduce its academic, cultural, economic and urban development in light of the Vision 2030 reform plan, Nugali said.
He thanked Khalid Al-Nami, cultural attache at the Saudi Embassy in Cairo, and all the employees at the cultural attache’s office for making this participation a success.
Nugali participated in a cultural gathering alongside the fair. He also received a commemorative gift from Al-Nami and toured the pavilion of the Arab League, which is the guest of honor at this year’s fair.
Al-Nami said this year’s pavilion focuses on the Kingdom’s scientific, historic and cultural uniqueness.
The Saudi pavilion contains a large number of prominent Saudi publications and books, in addition to a visual arts exhibition highlighting the Kingdom’s heritage.
The Saudi Ministry of Justice is also exhibiting more than 125 publications that shed light on the Kingdom’s judicial system.
Recently, Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb visited the Saudi pavilion. He said the Saudi participation reflects the depth Saudi-Egyptian relations shared.
Al-Nami stressed the importance of the visit, pointing out that Al-Azhar serves as guiding light for Islam.
The fair was inaugurated on Wednesday by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in the affluent New Cairo area on the outskirts of the capital.
