Riyadh Metro awards major contract to Guardian Glass

Riyadh Metro is scheduled to receive around 125,000 square meters of Guardian Glass to cover six lines, 85 stations of the Kingdom’s mega transportation project.

The contract was awarded by all three consortia of Riyadh Metro – FAST, ANM and BACS – with varying glass products to be installed in each of their corresponding lines to meet the 176km project’s complex light transmission and energy requirements.

Riyadh Metro/Contractors spokesperson, “To us, having a local supplier with global standards is very important. The Riyadh Metro project is a landmark project which requires best in class products and service when it comes to the glass, especially in such harsh climates as the one here in Riyadh. Guardian Glass is able to deliver the required standards for such a project, as they have done many times in the past. We visited their production facilities in Al Jubail and found all the quality standards required to deliver products fit for an iconic project like the Riyadh Metro.

Wissam Kazzaz, Regional Marketing Director – Africa & Middle East Guardian Glass said “We’re proud to be a part of Riyadh Metro, but more importantly we believe that this step will truly help save upfront and ongoing energy-related costs for a massive project of this scale.

We’ve taken all the aesthetic and functional possibilities of light and energy requirements into consideration and are very confident in our ability to support this project with best-in-class products and team of experts who will be available around the clock to guide the entire process.”

Guardian outranked bidders for its high-performance products that outpace the region’s current offerings as the most technically advanced coated glass, developed to meet the unique needs of the Middle East and Asia in terms of climate, regulations and architectural and aesthetic requirements.

With a glass plant located only within the same country of the project - Saudi Guardian International Float Glass Ltd. (GulfGuard) also tested for the lowest carbon footprint and least shipping time, a key deciding factor in line with the national project’s overall objective to increase energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Guardian Glass supports the Saudi Vision 2030 effort to position KSA as the region’s leading glass exporter.

Among the company’s most notable projects in the region include Burj Khalifa, Sheikh Jaber Cultural Center in Kuwait, the new airport terminal (terminal 5) in Riyadh, and the world’s soon-to-be tallest tower, Jeddah Tower.
