Throughout his life and career, Abercrombie & Kent’s Founder and Chairman, Geoffrey Kent has been driven by an insatiable curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit, always looking to the future and anticipating where to go next. Now he recounts his globetrotting exploits in SAFARI: A Memoir of a Worldwide Travel Pioneer, is being published by Harper Collins in August in the US and in the UK on September 10, 2015.

 

Geoffrey Kent was born while his parents were on safari and grew up on the family farm in Kenya, establishing a lifelong affinity for the country’s people, land, and wildlife. At 16, he became the first individual to motorbike between Kenya and Cape Town. A graduate of the elite Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, he became lifelong friends with Prince Charles when the two were young men serving in the British military. Kent’s abilities as a first-rate tactician, his logistical acumen and attention to detail, and his diverse background served him well when he founded Abercrombie & Kent with his parents in 1962.  Since then his mission has been to enable travellers to discover the world in a distinctively stylish manner, the hallmark of any trip with A&K.

 

As he explains, “This book is more than a collection of the best tales that I’ve experienced along the path: this book is my love story. I pioneered adventure and experiential travel…but my own greatest adventure has been this business itself”. A compelling raconteur, Geoffrey chronicles his journeys from climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro as a teen to ushering in the 21st century at the North Pole, with stops along the way in India, Egypt, Alaska, the Galapagos Islands, and Papua New Guinea among other far-flung destinations.
