For the second year in a row Ericsson announces winners of “smart schools” competition in Egypt

Ericsson announced the final winners of its “Smart Schools” competition 2015 in Egypt for the second year in a row covering new areas across Egypt and reaching out to five governorates: Giza, Qalioubeya, Minya, Qena and Port Said.

Ericsson organized this competition in cooperation with Nile Schools in Egypt focusing on the role that the communications technology can play in fostering innovation among secondary school students and through education.

Participating students were asked to come up with ideas of new inventions that will enable the Networked Society where everything that can benefit from a connection will be connected. Only three governorates made it to the semi-final (Giza, Qalioubeya and Port Said) and they were invited to an event to present their ideas in front of a judging committee that selected the final winners.

“The Smart Schools competition in Egypt reflects our belief in the young generations’ great potential to come up with unique and exciting ideas to shape the Networked Society.  Last year, we launched the competition towards private schools in Egypt and this year we collaborated with Nile Schools, Egypt’s first governmental school that applies international curriculum and is funded by the Educational Development Fund and administered by the Egyptian Council of Ministers, to reach out to more students across the country covering five governorates across Egypt. It was great to see those insights and ideas that the students brought into the final round,” said Isil Yalcin, President of Ericsson North East Africa.

HebaTullah Shaker from Obour Nile School won the first place for her idea “Good Harvest”, Omar Ayman from Obour Nile school won the second place for his idea“ Smart Bin” while Salma Ihab from 6th of October Nile school won the third place for her idea “ Revealing secrets.”

The winners were awarded a round trip during the summer vacation to Ericsson’s Experience Centre in Sweden where they will have the opportunity to explore more around the ICT fast evolution and what the future is still holding.  Also, they will get the chance to present their ideas to Ericsson research experts who will study the implementation of their ideas in real life.
