Dubai Chambers’ In Focus initiative connects members to opportunities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan

  • The first edition of the In Focus series highlights potential sectors for investment and trade in agriculture, metallurgy, tourism and construction
  • The vision of the In Focus events is for members to sign up for the Chambers’ New Horizons initiative in Q1 2023

Dubai Chambers has held the first edition of its In Focus events last week. With a spotlight on Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, the event hosted attendees from various business sectors including food, trading, logistics, tourism, sustainability, pharmaceutical, engineering and construction.

Over a series of presentations and interactive panel discussions with experts from all three countries, the first In Focus session discussed synergies in trade and investment between Dubai, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

“Dubai and the UAE are always building bridges on many different surfaces, be it logistics, connections, B2B, functions and events like today’s event. What we are doing with In Focus is to learn and educate ourselves on business and trade opportunities in new regions and countries of interest. For instance, today’s edition provided Dubai Chambers’ members with first-hand information on market access, connections, skills and tools that help them with their expansion plans in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan,” said Omar Khan, Executive Director, International Offices, Dubai International Chamber.

In line with Dubai Chambers’ strategic priority of driving international expansion of Dubai’s companies, the first edition of the In Focus event highlighted the potential sectors for investment and trade between Dubai and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

In 2021, Dubai’s non-oil trade with the three countries reached US$2.4 billion. Central Asia is an important market for Dubai and discussions at the In Focus event have identified trade and investment synergies in the food, tourism, finance, metallurgy, logistics and construction sectors.

Supporting Dubai Chambers’ member companies with global expansion, the In Focus event also provided members the opportunity to engage in smaller focus groups to transparently discuss market entry opportunities and strategies in those particular countries. Members also broached relevant topics related to conducting business in these Central Asian countries such as cost of living, ease of banking and financial facilities as well as incentives for foreign businesses.

“The aim of our activities today is to support the expansion of our members to one or more of the three countries in focus including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The highlight of the In Focus engagement is to encourage participant members to sign up for our upcoming trade missions to the three countries, planned for Q1 2023. The trade mission will include meetings with the key stakeholders for establishing and doing business in the respective country as well as site visits to industrial and economic zones. It will also provide a platform for pre-arranged business matching activities, in addition to activities related to the local business culture,” added Omar Khan.

Serving as a platform for Dubai businesses and member companies to engage with public and private sector leaders in strategic markets, the In Focus events focus on meeting some of the business needs of Dubai Chambers members to help them grow and achieve their expansion goals.

In Focus leads to the New Horizons initiative in the first quarter of 2023, where the chamber will organize tailor-made trade missions to selected countries. This first In Focus event saw strong interest and registration for these trade missions.

Dubai Chambers is committed to supporting its members to globally expand into strategic markets across the world as well as attract foreign investments and international companies such as those from Central Asia to the emirate and enhance the Dubai’s reputation as a global business and trade hub.
