Checking of border resorts intensified

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has begun inspecting several tourist facilities on the border with Yemen because more guests are arriving as Operation Decisive Storm continues.

It is inspecting hotels and furnished apartments in Asir, Jazan and Najran for hygiene, price and safety, said Waleed Al-Humaidi, the SCTA’s vice president for provincial affairs. This has been done on the orders of Prince Sultan bin Salman, SCTA’s president, he said.
“Hospitality facilities on the southern border are receiving an increasing number of guests in light of Operation Decisive Storm, therefore monitoring and inspections have been intensified,” he said.

Al-Humaidi said inspectors have already uncovered several violations at 24 facilities in Asir, including a lack of licenses and deviations from price limits. In Jazan, the SCTA found similar violations at 19 accommodation facilities.
He urged visitors to report violations by contacting the Tourism Contact Center on the toll free number 19988 or send a complaint to the nearest SCTA branch.
The SCTA is holding discussions with the Ministry of Interior on the possibility of installing surveillance cameras at facilities, he said.
