The Saudi Welfare Society for the Sponsorship of Saudi Families Abroad (Awasser) said it has managed to bring home 27 Saudi families (comprising 67 members) which were stranded abroad.
They were brought back to the Kingdom last year after the formal procedures that included correcting their status and providing them with proper identification documents, said Awasser in its annual report published in a local media outlet.
Its efforts to count the Saudi families stranded outside will continue, and that they will continue to offer them aid in cash or kind in order to help them return back.
The charity body said there are currently 2,103 Saudi families, or 7,559 people, stranded across 31 countries who require assistance to return home. The leading country where the majority of these families are stuck is Kuwait with 780 families, followed by Syria with 283, Bahrain 121, Jordan 290, Egypt 269 and Yemen 56. Besides, they are also stuck in several non-Arab countries Indonesia 27 families, the Philippines 16, India 16 and the USA 15, according to Awasser.
Awasser Chairman Tawfiq Al-Suwailem said the society is trying to reach out to more such stranded Saudi families who are in need of any help.
“The society is moving forward with its efforts to help Saudi families abroad who are cut off any resources. With the cooperation of the Saudi embassies, we make all efforts possible to find them, communicate with them and then make field visits to them to learn more about their conditions,” He was quoted as saying to local media.
Al-Suwailem commended the role of the honorary chairman of the society, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif.
