Haya Water Purchases Xylem’s 4 millionth Flygt wastewater pump

Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL), a leading global water technology company, has produced the 4 millionth Flygt wastewater pump at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sweden. Haya Water, owned by the Sultanate of Oman, purchased the 4 millionth Flygt wastewater pump that will support the efficient operation of the central pumping station at Azaibah, Muscat, Oman. The station pumpswastewater across eight kilometres to the Al Ansab treatment plant. Xylem is the first international pump manufacturer to have produced this quantity of wastewater pumps at the same facility.

Xylem’s Flygt brand has a 100-year legacy of innovation in pumping, from developing the first submerged pumps to designing the non-clogging N-impeller, to producing wear resistant hydraulics. The very first Flygt pump was manufactured at Xylem’s factory in Emmaboda, Sweden. Xylem’s Flygt pumps are also produced at manufacturing sites around the world in China, India, the United States and Argentina. The company applies its expertise and technologies to solve complex global water challenges including removing flood waters from New York and New Jersey following Hurricane Sandy, providing energy efficient wastewater pumping at Heathrow Airport and preventing flooding of downtown Kuala Lumpur.

The 4 millionth 500 kilowatt (kw) pump stands at 2.85 metres in height, 5,300 kilogrammes weight, with a pumping capacity of 500 litres per second at 66.9 metre head. It features Flygt´s state-of-the-art monitoring system for operational safety, and accessible data review. When the existing Flygt pumps in the central pumping station require routine maintenance, the 4 millionth pump will ensure that this critical pumping station can continue to operate efficiently.

Mr. Saud Salim Ambusaidy, senior maintenance manager, Haya Water - Oman, said, “Producing 4 million wastewater pumps at this facility is a testament to the illustrious legacy of Xylem’s Flygt brand and the significant impact this brand has had, and continues to have, on solving water issues worldwide. This central pumping station is a crucial part of the sewage system in Oman - we need reliable, robust pumps to ensure that we provide a dependable service. Since 2006, Xylem has supported us to do this and we are confident that the company will continue to facilitate an efficient water service into the future.”

Tomas Brannemo, Xylem senior vice president and president of transport, said, “As the original submersible wastewater pump, the Flygt pump transformed the wastewater industry and we have continued to innovate since that time. We are very proud of the brand’s rich heritage and this 4 millionth Flygt wastewater pump will play a key role in supporting a sustainable environment in Oman. I also look forward to many future milestones and believe the expertise, innovation and market-leading technology at Xylem will ensure customers always have the most advanced and efficient water pump solutions in the industry.”

Mr. Ambusaidy, Haya Water and Mr Mustafa Bawab, general manager with distributor Gulf Development and Construction (INMA) LLC attended an event hosted by Xylem at the Emmaboda facility in Sweden to mark the milestone achievement.
