EXPERTS SHARE SECRETS ON FUNDING AND PRODUCTION
Top industry executives and experts will discuss production resources, challenges and opportunities for UAE based film makers, at Tamakkan's seminar on October 30 at Mamoura Auditorium.
The seminar will feature Wayne Borg, Chief Operating Officer of twofour54, Michelle Nickelson, Chief Operating Officer of Mirage Holdings which operates Dh 100 million film fund, intellectual property lawyer Fiona Robertson, Vida Rizq founder of crowd sourcing entity aflamnah.com and film makers Hana Makki and Amal Al Agroobi who will present their crowd sourced film project'. In addition there is likely to be participation by Image Nation and the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
"We have succeeded in bringing together diverse resources into a single seminar aimed at supporting entrepreneurship in the film industry. The momentum has been built by the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and there is a huge appetite by filmmakers to get going on their projects," said Sana Bagersh, Founder of Tamakkan, whose film The Journey won Black Pearl Special Jury award in the Emirates shorts category of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
She explained that the Tamakkan seminar will focus on critical areas such as funding resources, production and logistics facilities, legal and intellectual property issues as well as content strategies and opportunities.
In addition to presenting information about the new film funding facility for Hollywood scale projects, Nickelson will also introduce Women In Film, an organisation headquartered in Los Angeles, whose local branch supports UAE women film makers. Borg will highlight the resources available through twofour54 and the opportunities that are emerging for film projects. Rizq will talk about how her initiative funds small budget films, and an example of this will be the documentary The Brain That Sings whose trailer will be presented by its directors during the session.
“There will be something for every level of film maker, and the idea is to enable those working on their various projects to come together to network and possibly collaborate," said Bagersh.
Established in June 2009, Tamakkan is a social enterprise run by BrandMoxie, a leading advertising and marketing agency in the UAE.
