The All-New Expedition: Ford’s powerful SUV arrives to the Kingdom smarter, more capable, and more adaptable than Ever

Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies, the sole authorized dealer of Ford and Lincoln vehicles in Saudi Arabia, announced the launch of the all-new Ford Expedition 2018 in the Kingdom during a special event held in Riyadh attended by businessmen, journalists, and Ford senior officials and clients.

On this occasion, Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies’ Deputy CEO Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Fahad Al Kraidees said, “We are delighted to offer Ford’s full-size SUV models, the Ford Expedition 2018. Uniquely designed and more luxurious than ever before, the enhancements made on its design reflect our clients’ desires based on extensive customer research. We are certain that the Expedition 2018 will push the presence of this deep-rooted brand in the Kingdom to new heights.”

"This event is very important as the all-new Ford Expedition 2018 will redefine the standards of the full-size SUV market with its superior interior and exterior designs and unique smart technology. We expect these factors to have tremendous appeal to our clients," he added.

The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition charges into the Kingdom promising to redefine the full-sized SUV segment with its all-new design inside and out, its unique smart technologies, more power for drivers, and more expected towing capability than any other full-sized SUV.

What’s New?

Thoroughly updated with the latest “must-have” connectivity features, driver-assist technology and premium convenience amenities – including multiple class-exclusive features – the all-new Ford Expedition is the best Expedition ever. Delivering improved performance and best-in-class towing Ford’s full-size SUV is also one of the most capable and adaptable utility vehicles on the market.

New and notable

  • Advanced Cargo Manager and class-exclusive cargo protector provides the ability to customize the cargo space behind the third row seating with a shelf or rear bulkhead.
  • Dual-Headrest Rear Seat Entertainment System includes two eight-inch screens integrated into the rear of the front-seat head restraints. A pair of wireless headsets can be paired with either monitor.
  • Wireless inductive charging capability comes via a wireless charging pad – for compatible mobile devices – located in the storage bin at the front of the center console.
  • Ford’s driver-selectable Terrain Management System (TMS), with seven drive modes on 4WD models, appears on the Expedition for the first time, offering greater “go anywhere” confidence.
  • 12-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system perfected by acoustic engineers for a sound experience even audiophiles will appreciate.
  • Power for passengers in every row, with four 12-volt power points, six USB chargers and 220-volt power outlet that lets passengers stay charged and connected.

New unprecedented levels of technology

Expedition is a high-tech utility vehicle that offers customers an abundance of technology:

  • Adaptive Steering: The new Ford steering system adapts to driving conditions to make steering easier at low speeds, and more robust at high speeds. In low-speed circumstances, such as in parking lots, Adaptive Steering enables drivers to turn the front wheels with less steering wheel input. At highway speeds, the system provides a confident driving experience.
  • New 360-degree camera with split view: The new available split-view camera feature helps drivers see traffic and obstacles that enter the vehicle’s path from the side by displaying a 180-degree view of the area in front of or behind Expedition, using real-time video feeds from one-megapixel wide-angle lens cameras in the grille and tailgate.
  • Enhanced Active Park Assist: Enhanced Active Park Assist removes the hassle of parallel and reverse parking. This is thanks to around-the-car monitoring of sensors, radar and cameras.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Brake Support: This is the next evolution in steering technology and a crucial part of self-driving cars of the near future. When its radar sensor detects traffic slowing ahead, the vehicle slows down and once traffic has cleared, it resumes to the preset speed.
  • Lane-Keeping System: Expedition’s Lane-Keeping System aids the driver when the vehicle drifts out of their lane; the steering wheel vibrates to alert the driver to steer their vehicle back into the lane. This customizable system allows the driver to programme where in the lane the warning should be issued and how intense they want the feedback from the steering wheel.
  • BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow Monitoring: This radar system detects a vehicle in the driver’s blind spot and alerts them with a small indicator light in the appropriate exterior mirror. These alerts are also available when parking.
  • SYNC® 3: A fully-integrated, voice-activated communications, entertainment and information system, SYNC® 3, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability enables you to stay connected while you’re driving so you can keep your eyes on the road. A revolutionary way to interact with your vehicle, the color touchscreen conveniently displays the most-used features with easy-to-read text and icons on the home screen, which also responds in with impressive speed to a light tap, swipe or pinch for some features.
  • AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™: Using sensors to measure the roll rate of the vehicle, Expedition can predict its roll angle. Based on this information and measurements from other vehicle dynamics sensors, the system can adjust engine torque and brake pressure at all four wheels to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle.

Most capable Expedition ever

Powered by a second-generation 3.5-litre EcoBoost® twin-turbo engine with standard Auto Start-Stop plus a class exclusive new 10-speed automatic transmission, the all-new Expedition is the most powerful Expedition ever, offering up to 400 horsepower on Platinum models along with a whopping 650 NM of torque.

The 2018 Expedition’s new Terrain Management System has up to seven drive modes including a Sand Mode, and, paired with a two-speed transfer case (all four-wheel-drive models) and the rear eLSD (electronic limited-slip differential) that allows a full differential lock, offers excellent off-road capability. In addition, an all-new high-strength, aluminium-alloy body and redesigned high-strength steel frame form the foundation for Expedition’s rugged off-road and strong towing capabilities.

For customers wanting to carry more cargo or tow loads, the all-new Expedition offers Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which makes backing up a trailer as easy as turning a knob. The all-new Expedition offers a class-leading towing capacity of up to 4,200 kg.

Smartest Expedition ever
The all-new Expedition offers more driver-assist technology than any other full-size SUV. More than 40 features and driver-assist technologies new to Expedition help make the journey as enjoyable as the destination. These include class-exclusive enhanced active park assist to easily pull in and out of parking spots, as well as available 360-degree camera technology to help customers see more around their Expedition for easier parking.

On the road, Expedition’s lane-keeping aid is designed to reduce unintentional drifting of the vehicle outside its lane, while adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go allows drivers to set a cruising speed, using radar and camera technology to monitor traffic to maintain a set distance between vehicles.

Its collision avoidance detection system helps drivers avoid other vehicles or pedestrians, while available Blind Spot Information System helps monitor blind spots outside the driver’s immediate view.

Most adaptable Expedition ever

The all-new Expedition has a roomy, flexible interior. With seating for up to eight people and room for their gear, this full-size SUV makes modern family adventures more comfortable during short and long trips.

The all-new Expedition is the first full-size utility to feature a sliding second-row seat with tip-and-slide functionality, providing easy access to the third row without the need to first remove a child safety seat. Once in the third row, even adults will appreciate more legroom and reclining seats.

The all-new Expedition offers best-in-class second-row and third-row leg room and hip room. For large families traveling long distances in the Middle East, this is a feature that customers want and appreciate.

Expedition’s second- and third-row seats can be quickly folded flat with the push of a button to open up a cargo area wide enough to handle 4x8-foot sheets of plywood and other gear, depending on cargo weight and load distribution, even with the liftgate closed.

Even the drive is more adaptable, with Expedition’s all-new Terrain Management System™ that lets customers choose between drive modes for optimal vehicle handling in different conditions. This includes Normal for around-town driving, Sport for more spirited trips, Tow/Haul for improved towing and hauling performance, Eco for enhanced fuel economy, Grass/Gravel/Snow for loose terrain, Sand for low traction situations, and Mud/Rut for uneven surfaces.
