Street9 Café redefines street food in Abu Dhabi

Street 9 café was born with a focus of bringing global street food fare to the residents of the capital city. The menu is a marriage of fresh street food tweaked specifically for the local palate. The menu boasts of innovative items like chilly chicken fries, mac and cheese in a waffle cone, chicken shawarma sliders, cheesy beef pie with potatoes, yakisoba, fungi pasta among others. The café is specifically designed to provide café-goers with a trendy and chic ambience. The café is open from 10 am to 10 pm, daily.

‘Street 9 Café’ was born in the heart, mind and experience of a young Emirati entrepreneur Saydh Al Suwaidi, the owner of the café. According to her, “Travelling allowed me to experience local cuisines from various cultures. I always wanted to share the joy of eating delectable international fare with my loved ones. So I set out to bring the tastiest of all street food dishes from around the world and serve it to my countrymen, albeit with a regional twist”.

“Street food has been sold around the world since the inception of the concept of commerce. Until recently, street food was synonymous with cheap fast food with variable degree of nutrition and hygiene. Nowadays high quality offerings are just as much a part of street food than taste, price and convenience,” added Saydh.

The emergence of shrinking geographical boundaries has given rise to numerous choices in food options. Even in the UAE, once where shawarmas, burgers and kebabs used to rule the street food quotient; now we can find tacos, banh mi, pho, indian chaat, poutine and more. The growing emergence of street food as a popular trend is a direct result of the corresponding rise in eating out culture.

A report released by a world renowned audit company provided brilliant insight into the minds of the UAE residents. The report suggested that eating out is high priority for the citizens of the UAE. While the region’s economy has been impacted by micro-economic factors, the sector continues to be immune to its effects due to UAE’s highly diverse crowd, relatively young population, ever-increasing number of tourists and high levels of affluence.
