Shoura to discuss consumer protection from deceptive ads

In its 54th ordinary session scheduled to be held on Monday, the Shoura Council is set to discuss the report of the Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities Committee on a draft proposal on the advertisement and marketing regulation presented by the Shoura member Dr. Abdullah Al-Sufyani.

In its recommendation, the Committee called for studying the appropriateness of the 64-article draft proposal aimed at controlling and organizing the “advertising and marketing” market in the Kingdom such that it achieves the goals of development and protects the citizens and expatriates from misleading advertisements and deceptive marketing by enacting the necessary laws, legislations and awareness.

During the 55th ordinary session of the Shoura Council, scheduled to be held on Tuesday, members will vote on several recommendations of the Administration and Human Resources Committee on the annual report of the Ministry of Civil Service for the fiscal year 1437/1438H, after hearing the Committee’s viewpoint.

Most prominent among these is the Committee’s demand that the Ministry of Civil Service, in coordination with the authorities related to the labor market, should contribute to countering unemployment and tackling the job and financial discrepancies resulting from signing contracts with consultants and experts.

The Committee called for drawing up a detailed plan in coordination with the pertinent authorities to fill these vacancies, especially the jobs of expatriate members of the teaching staff in universities and jobs in the health sector.

During the session, the Council is also slated to discuss the report of the Economic and Energy Committee on the annual report of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) for the fiscal year 1438/1439H.

The Committee has stressed, in the report it submitted to the Council, that SAGIA should give more attention to the local investor and encourage Saudi investors to invest locally in national projects.

Meanwhile, during the 56th ordinary session of the Shoura Council set to be held on Wednesday, members will discuss the report of the Administration and Human Resources Committee on the annual report of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) for the fiscal year 1438/1439H.

In the recommendations it presented to the Council, the Committee demanded of HRDF to Saudize jobs in the operation and maintenance sector in order to enable trained national manpower to replace expatriate workers gradually, in coordination with the other related authorities.

During the session, the Council is scheduled to discuss the report of the Economy and Energy Committee on the annual report of the Ministry of Commerce and Investment for the fiscal year 1438/1439H.

In the recommendations the Committee presented to the Council, it urged the Ministry of Commerce and Investment to speed up completion of the National Strategy for Countering Commercial Fraud and coordinate with the pertinent authorities to complete the Comprehensive Commercial Legal System.

The Council is also set to discuss the annual reports of several other ministries and authorities and vote on a number of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in security, judicial and political domains.
