Saudi-Japanese team to conduct archeological research in Amluj ago

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Waseda in Tokoyo for archeological excavations at Hawra in Tabuk’s Amluj governorate.

The agreement was signed by SCTH Vice President for Antiquities and Museums Jamal Omar and Waseda University’s Prof. Hasagawa Su.

According to the agreement, a Saudi and Waseda University joint team will carry out archeological research on the site.

The Tabuk region is rich in antiquities and archeological sites such as petroglyphs, inscriptions, forts, palaces, walls, and the remains of the Hejaz Railway line, the main station of which is located in Tabuk.

Hundreds of localities with rock art and inscriptions dating to different chronological periods and ranging from Paleolithic to the Islamic period were recorded at Wadi Dam and the region west of Tabuk.

The Tabuk Castle also known as the castle of Ahsab Al-Aykah (Companions of the Wood) dates back to about 3500 BCE and has been restored many times.

Meanwhile, Prince Sultan Bin Salman, President of the National Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, visited the Saudi pavilion themed “Arabian Peninsula: The masterpieces of the effects of Saudi Arabia through the ages” at the National Museum of Japan.

The pavilion has been put up by the Arab Islamic Institute in Tokyo of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University.
