Oman Air Stands Ready As Cyclone Chapala Approaches Sultanate

As monitoring of Cyclone Chapala’s approach towards the Arabian Peninsula continues, Oman Air has announced that it is ready to provide whatever support it can, should the people of Oman require it.

The cyclone is expected to reach the southern tip of the Peninsula, including the Dhofar region of Oman, within the next 48 hours. Forecasters predict that it will bring very heavy rainfall, extremely high winds and huge storm surges. Flash floods are also expected to be a major hazard.

Paul Gregorowitsch, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, announced:

“We all hope that the risk presented by Cyclone Chapala recedes. However, as the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, our Emergency Response teams are currently on standby and coordinating with the relevant authorities. We are ready to provide whatever assistance we can to help our brothers, sisters and residents in the southern region who may be affected by this cyclone.

“We are also liaising closely with the emergency services and other AGENCIES. These include the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre and the Royal Oman Police (ROP). Our manpower, logistical expertise and cargo capacity remain at their disposal.

“Furthermore, we are closely monitoring the progress of the cyclone. We are taking the necessary steps to minimise its impact on our services and on the travel plans of our customers. Any resulting changes will be announced through our website and social media.

“As the situation continues, our thoughts are with all those who may be affected by Cyclone Chapala, particularly in the region of Dhofar.”
