New tire rules to take effect in November

The board of the Saudia Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization has announced that mandatory application of the regulations on new tires produced or sold in the Kingdom will commence in November this year.
The board explained that the technical regulations have set limits for rolling resistance on wet surfaces. There are six classifications to this effect: excellent, very good, good, average, bad and very bad.
The board stressed that the timetable for the application of regulations for rolling resistance requirements will begin in two stages. The first is from January 2015 to Dec. 31, 2019, and the second is from Jan. 1, 2019 onward.
The board clarified that motorists could acquire tire efficiency cards in circulation from the manufacturers or their agents and importers through a web portal.
This comes after the board adopted technical regulations for procedures of recording data and issuing cards on energy efficiency in vehicles and tires which align with the efforts of the Saudi Program for Energy Efficiency (SPEE).
The SPEE, in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Saudi Customs Authority, has held a series of workshops to introduce the requirements for tires and has thus increased its role in improving the overall energy efficiency of vehicles in the Kingdom.
These workshops were held at the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Riyadh, Jeddah, Madinah, Qassim, Hail, Eastern Provicne, Skaka, Abha, Jazan, Tabuk and other regions of the Kingdom.
