Najm to hire more female employees to serve women motorists

Najm for Insurance Services has announced that it will employ more Saudi women to deal with car accidents involving women drivers when they hit the road next June, according to Makkah daily.

The company said the move was within the implementation of a royal order to issue driving licenses for men and women alike in compliance with relevant traffic regulations.

Najm is closely working with 27 insurance companies in the Kingdom to handle car accident cases in the country.

The company, a joint venture between The Traffic Department and the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA), was established to follow up with insurance services in accident cases.

Najm, which has about 1,700 employees of whom 93 percent are Saudis, said women constitute about 13 percent of its manpower.

It said its female employees are taking down reports about traffic accidents, scrutinizing data and registering claims by clients.

The company's women employees have proved their competence and efficiency with their excellent performance in serving clients.

Najm covers 31 Saudi cities and towns and is providing its services to the Saudi and expatriates road users.

The company said it adopted a strategy to further promote its services through an app with the activation of its electronic services to cater to the needs of male and female customers.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Department has threatened to take legal action against anyone who takes advantage of the royal decree to offer women driving lessons on public roads.

Col. Tariq Al-Rubaian, spokesman for the Traffic Department, said reports about driving schools to give driving lessons on the streets are not true.

"The royal decree has asked for the constitution of a committee to lay down the rules and regulations for issuing women with driving licenses on an equal footing with men," he said, adding that women will be allowed to take to the streets only in June.

The spokesman made it clear that teaching driving in the streets is strictly forbidden for both men and women.

A number of companies have expressed their willingness to train women drivers on their premises for a fee of SR40 an hour or SR1,200 for 30 hours, which is the time needed to learn driving.
