Continuing MCM’s year of 40th  anniversary celebrations, the forward-thinking German luxury house has created a collection of boldly elegant designs inspired by the iconic creativity of its birthplace for Autumn/Winter 2016.

 

Looking to Munich and its opulent artistic heritage, this season’s “Munich Epoque”  explores the crossover between sumptuous glamour and  clean  minimalism  through baroque-inspired patterns juxtaposed against clean yet vibrant colourways.

 

Reds, gold, deep blues and yellow ochre create the palette, embellished with irreverent references to both Germany’s vibrant creative expression and cultural heritage. Taken in part from Munich’s Residenz Palace, the motifs and colours that run through the collection bring the designs back home in a succinct and concise way, while maintaining a contemporary feel.

 

Detailing  and  technique  ground  the  collection  with  hand-sewn  embroidery,  brocade,  Swarovski crystals, applique velvet, beading and waxed canvas running throughout.

 

The beginning of a new era for the brand, AW16 highlights a continuing desire to evolve the aesthetic codes of MCM, while not forgetting its own glamorous heritage and that of its home country.

 

Today a hybrid brand with a global view, an innate sense of refined quality is combined with innovation through the season’s accessories and ready-to-wear offer.

 

Baroque modernity defines this new collection, and, in doing so, celebrates four decades of creativity, imagination and innovation.

The Baroque Print is a stylish and modern interpretation of classic German artisan tradition. This print adorns key silhouettes such as the lightweight Kira Shopper and Stark Backpack. Opulence is combined with everyday flair in this iconic MCM pattern seen in ruby red, Sahara yellow, and Munich blue.

Inspired by MCM’s classic heritage travel collection, the Berlin Series pieces pay homage to the archive yet remains firmly contemporary with the addition of bold rivets and studs.
